Cover vs. Original

All Along the Watchtower

That is not an easy choice: But in this case I have to decide in favour of the cover version ofJimi Hendrix. His style of playing guitar is just sensational.
Bob Dylan was impressed by Jimis version of his song, too. So he even once played it during a concert in the style of Jimi Hendrix.
But I can't wait to see how you will vote...

Jimi Hendrix
1968

vs.

Bob Dylan
1967

Dylan said," I wrote it, Jimi owns it". Nuff said

As my dear friend Arlyn said long ago after hearing Jimi’s version for the first time: “Well, that answers the question- How do you improve on a masterpiece?”

let us beat about the bush. bob dylans version is rubbish and jimis version is the best song ever.like they used to say about sean connery is bond and all the others were as bond. big difference between singing and being.when jimi is finished you are experienced.you are not the same.

This song just shows the immense talent Jimi was. He made the song so much his that it overshadows Bob Dylan's original.

You can't get better and more creative guitar from anyone else but Hendrix. Dylan's great writing and Jimi's great guitar make Hendrix's version better. Dave Mattew's Band or the Greatful Dead or Clapton and for that matter anyone else who covers this song will never make it better than Hendrix. His over shadows all the rest.

Now that's what I'm talking about. This song is a perfect example of the story. Here's the deal: Bob Dylan wrote this song way back in 1967 from the album "John Wesley Harding" but I hear this every once in awhile. The other version rocks me forever and because of this, Jimi Hendrix has to be one of my favorite guitarists and you know something guys.... between Bob and Jimi, I think Jimi's got the moves to this song! What do you say about that? Hey, I can tell you right now that I have 2 Jimi Hendrix's posters and we put them behind the wall next to the Beatles so this way you'll know that Jimi RULES!!!! Now every once in a while, a friend of mine plays this on a guitar and OH BOY! I was so joyful that I couldn't stop dancing or singing to this song because I believe this should be the "Anthem Song"! HAHAHAHA So it's like a dream come true. It's a true classic that you would never forget. And believe me, I would recommend Jimi because he's better than Bob Dylan and I know that it comes to my head all the time so there you have it, people! ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER!!!!

Well, dylan is certainly a GOD and a LEGEND for his composing and song writing skills...the man has written SO many amazing songs, but his singing and guitar playing were nothing special. Even Dylan said that Jimi's version sounds like how he imagined the song should sound.

Checking whether this works.. although this song is brilliant, just read the lyrics.. such amazing action, and beautiful description.. it has many layers in itself..

but I say, "although", because although the song itself is great, Jimi just takes it elsewhere. He brings the imagery of the lyric to the sound of the music too.. :) action baby! burns me!!
