Cover vs. Original

Beast of Burden

I like the version of this nice song by Bette Midler. Of course the original song by The Rolling Stones is good, too. But Bette Midler gave this song her personal touch. She sings "Beast of Burden" very powerful and with lots of emotions.
So my vote goes to Bette Midler.

How many pathetic Greenwich Village queens voted here, anyway? What a joke.

Bette Midler is a divine legend my darlings and its about time she was shown the well deserved recognition. Her career says it all. Enough said. Now stop swearing, getting angry and wasting energy, turn your computers off and go outside and do something positive with your lives. Peace out.

Foolish boys and girls. I like Bette well enough. Npt a problem but it does not compare to Mick. This "old man" seen Jimi, Led and the Stones all live and in person. The real - deal music speaks for itself. Not to be outdone by anyone.

Wait, what? Bette Midler is winning? Seriously? SERIOUSLY? I hate the internet.

Wow, all those years gone by, but thanks to this website, I just discovered Bette Midler's version tonight! Watched the video on Youtube that features Mick Jagger (who sez the two are exclusive?) and it was a blast. I'll always love the original, but props to Bette for a fun, spirited performance!

What Bette did was update the song. The Stones version was cutting edge in its time and, as stated, more or less, is an iconic song. (I'm old enough to have loved it then.) You can't take that away from the Stones. Bette gave is a different feel and actually made a harsh, somewhat angry song, into a challenge and somewhat of a love song. I have a number of songs I like both the original of and a later cover. Dylan is great for that. (Except by Madonna. She ruined American Pie.) Give it a break! There's room for both versions in the music world.

Why are people being so harsh about Bette. She was paying tribute to the Stones, as Mick was in the video. She may be old, but she looks a hell of a lot better than these guys do!! and she has a better voice! And obviously the public like her version better!

The Stones have been here for a long time. Many modern bands thank their existence to them. No chubby old lady can do them justice.
