Cover vs. Original

Easy

The song Easy is played in the radio nearly only in the version by Faith No More, at least here in Germany. However the original version by Lionel Ritchie and his band The Commodores is pretty old from the year 1977. But in fact Faith No More didn't change much in its version of this song. One guitar solo more and not so much more. For me this is not an important change, so I vote for Lionel Ritchie.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers do the best cover of this song not FNM

Faith No More did oggod version but Red Hot Chilli Peppers did a ripping version, little known.

FNM version was not bad but was probably voted by more youngsters who never heard the original when it was in its pomp - Commodores were an awesome band and the opening of the original still gives me goosebumps on that piano.

The song is credited to mr. Richie. So it's not really a topic for a vote, the vote just shows people's ignorance. I really like Mike's voice tho, so if it would be 'which one do you prefer?' I'd say Faith no More.
- Antti J. Sipilä, Helsinki, Finland, 9-.-0.2008
They just sound the same for me...
- Grishenko, Iquiuque, Chile, 0-.-1.2007
This is actually a tough choice. The Commodores were great but Faith No More did this song so much justice. For me they just scrape this one.
- Dino, Cape Town, South Africa, 6-.-0.2007
I'm actually a huge Faith No More fan, but I honestly voted for the Commodores version. They are virtually identical, except that FNM decided to leave out the second verse to shorten the song. Plus, this is a really cheesy song anyway and was kind of a predictable cover for a band like Faith No More. BTW this song is actually included in some versions of Angel Dust worldwide, just not in the US.
- Lemon, Kennewick, United States, 3-.-0.2007
The Commodores version is much smoother and more complete. In FNM's version it's like something is missing and the backgound choir is not that accurate on some notes.
- Anders, Kristianstad, Sweden, 8-.-0.2006
FNM changed more than that, they completely removed the second verse making it a one verse song.
- Philip, Stockholm, Sweden, 5-.-0.2006
The fact that this cover (and not any of their original tunes) made Faith No More popular worldwide speaks about the quality of the original. They didn't bother to change arrangement and solo even, that's how perfect the original version is.
