Cover vs. Original

Smooth Criminal

Thanks for this proposal, Tom. I have to admit, when I first read the name of the song, I didn't know which song it is. But then I started listening to it and I recognized it of course. But that the version by Alien Ant Farm is only a cover version and that Michael Jackson wrote the original, I haven't known so far. But you live and learn.
However, I like this song. But I'm not a big fan of Michael Jackson. So my vote goes to Alien Ant Farm.

Sid, it sounds like you made special friends with Michael during a prolonged stay at the Neverland ranch. There also may be deeper issues such as Stockholm syndrome at play here.

P.S...Polls always tell the truth.

I agree that Alien Ant Farm's version is way cooler.
It's more rock and roll and got much more of a meaty rhythm.
MJ was never the king of pop. He is a poor man's Elvis and Dirty Diana is a slow-inspiring pile of drivel. Viva Alien Ant Farm I say. Tom.

I like the sped- up tempo of AAF's version of Smooth Criminal but im still a die hard fan of the Michael Jackson video for it. Nothing can top his vision and choreography for that short film. But im not gonna dis AAF's version b/c they did MJ justice and weren't mocking him or anything which is great to see. I say A- for AAF and A+ for Michael Jackson.

This whole website is retarded. You guys are fighting over which song is better? Why must there be conflict in music. All the people below me trying to derive negative comments towards any of these songs are just fools. A cover is just supposed to be an artist's take on a song, not to make an exact duplicate of it. If that's what people want then why don't they just listen to the song twice?

Here's a thought, maybe the people that don't like the AAF version are jealous that it got more attention than the original song. If that is the truth, then that says something about the original song. Theres something to think about

mj was and always be the king of pop! he is the freaking best his song is so typical and aaf's electric guitar is so stupid!

"I honestly prefer AAFs because of the singing not because of the electric guitar"

What a damn joke lol. It'd be better if you liked it better just because it was rock, because at least then you'd be liking it for something MJ didn't do. Better singing from AAF. Lmfao. That's a riot. Bunch of mediocrity lovers, all of you who voted for AAF. I bet some of you even like AAF's "we're playing at a party and everyone is having fun" Smooth Criminal music video better than Michael Jackson's. Maybe AAF represents a level of talent that you can actually comprehend.
