Cover vs. Original

You really got me

This time I have to admit that until quite recently I myself haven't known that 'You really got me' was not published by Van Halen as an original. Already in the sixties The Kinks produced this song. And also at that time it was anything else than a bad song and topped the UK-Charts.
Neverthelless I like Van Halens cover version better. They brought even more dynamic into this great song. So my vote goes to Van Halen.

Van Halen's version is way better than the kinks. The kinks version is garbage

how can you prefer Van Halen over the awesomeness of the kinks? The kinks rock ass way more than they ever could. Vote KINKS!!!

Van Halen are pants. I've seen more feeling in a used tissue...

I love both versions and find it impossible to vote.
Nevertheless you put in a draw alternative?

D00d Van Halen is a very boring rockband with a very good guitarist. Now their version sucks bigtime and the Kinks and the Who rock a 1000 times more than any Vanhalen track.
So there.

Best cover version is by Mott the Hoople. But the Kinks' original is supreme, one of the greatest rock tracks ever.

I am quite surprised by this huge collective in favor of the Kinks. I am not saying that it should not be that way or that that is wrong, but I am referring to Ray Davies the media comments about the two versions from their creators. Here is a quote: "Ray Davies once said the he liked the Van Halen version better than the Kinks' own, saying that their original version (the Kinks) was like a prop plane and Van Halen's was like a jet fighter. Eddie later responded by saying he was flattered but that the original was better. His version was just more modern. "Ray, that prop stuff is the real sh-t," he said."

The original! For me it's the passion, as well as the innovation of the Kinks' version that makes it one of those always-current songs.
As for the solo; this is what Dave said regarding Jimmy Page's work on their 1st album. (it was part of a Q + A on his website)

"It was my sound, my guitar, my solo and my work. Now please leave it alone. Page played some rythmn on our first album.

Thanks, but please put it to bed.

Love and Peace

The author is a Van Halen fan and didn't know the Kinks. Ahem, say no more.!

There is no contest here. The Kinks version is superior. The sound is timeless. It's sounds as raw today as it did back then.
