I Will Follow Him (a.k.a. Chariot)
Peggy March's "I Will Follow Him" was adapted from the French song "Chariot" It was composed by French orchestra leaders Franck Pourcel and Paul Mauriot(best known for his 1968 instrumental "Love Is Blue"). It was first recorded and released as an instrumental by Franck Pourcel in 1961, and got frequent airplay on easy listening stations. A year later, Petula Clark recorded 2 vocal version of the song, one in French, the other in English. The English lyrics were written by Norman Gimbel. Then, in 1963 "Little" Peggy March recorded her hit version, which is the one that most people remember today.
For me, though, while Miss Peggy's version may have been the most popular, it can't top Franck Pourcel's original.
