Cover vs. Original

Mad World

All I know of Michael Andrews is this hauntingly minimal cover of a great Tears for Fears song that appeared in one of my favorite films, Donnie Darko. I still love the original, but the cover is dark and creepy like the movie so I prefer it these days.

I don't really know... Both songs are good in their own ways. I heard the Gary Jules version before I heard the Tears for Fears original. The Tears for Fears version sounds really different but I like both of them. Two interesting variations... :)

I prefer the Gary Jules cover myself. The song is just relaxing yet almost haunting, it also fits Donnie Darko perfectly :)

the new version sounds far better and fits the mood of donnie darko perfectly.

tears for fears does get its due credit in donnie darko: "with one foot stuck in the past, just how long will it last"
although I totally agree with the aforementioned tears for fears song in Donnie Darko, I find the new mad world remake by Andrews and Jules completely fitting for the dark homage portrayed in DD.. therefore the new gets the vote!

Michael Andrews cover of this classic song is as most covers are poor. Slowing down a song of this calibre makes it sound dreadfull, very poor cover indeed.

Michael Andrews plays the piano for this track and Gary Jules is the vocalist. Their version is the better one, by far!
