Cover vs. Original

Kashmir

This song tries to do the impossible, which is to compete with the incomparable masterpiece "Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin. In 1994 Kevin Gilbert heard that a Led Zeppelin tribute album was being put together and he made this version of Kashmir in his living room in ONE NIGHT. It's amazing. Kevin was such a genius he was able to capture what made Kashmir so great in song half the length. Note to cover bands, come in, show you get the original and get out. Shorter is better. Thanks for this version Kevin! We all miss you!

You know- You can not compete with Zep, but on it's own Gilbert's version is very good. I handles it with respect, but turns it just slightly to his own view. there is room to respect and listen to both.

Kevin did every single instrument and all the vocals himself alone in his livingroom one night just for sh!ts & giggles. His version was a "one-man-band" type of thing! He was a musical genius who, tragically, the world lost WAY too soon!

You've got to be #$%^ing kidding me with this one. One of the most influential bands of all time vs. (genius or not) a virtual nobody. I'm leaving this site now before I punch my monitor.
