Cover vs. Original

I Heard It Through The Grapevine

Actually the original is from Gladys Knight & The Pips but I think the version of Marvin Gaye is better known.

CCR's version is unfunky, and far too long... talk about guitar solo masturbation... Marvin's just
kills, it is the best from a musical genius...

Marvin Gaye's version is by far and wide the best! His vocals and the arrangement accompanying it are fantastic. Motowon at 1 of its most magical moments.

Not much doubt here CCR, 11 minute version. Fogerty's singing sets the tone and then at some point
the singing stops and the music carries that same feeling through to the very end where it just trails off. They convey the sense of hurt and betrayal that can consume ones thoughts at the expense of all else. I hesitate to even call it a cover because it feels acts so differently than any other version

The original is not by Marvin Gaye or by Gladys Knight and the Pips, but by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. Both released in 1967, but first bySR & TM.

Glady's knight and the pips is the best version than marvin gaye's but the only one that can match up to glady's knights is human natures from australia which is based on marvin gaye's version

I agree the eleven minute version by CCR is amazing. I believe Tina Turner also covered this as well which just goes to show how she not only covered CCR to death but songs they themselves had covered
