Cover vs. Original

Hazy Shade of Winter

Bangles take a soft, fluffy, sappy folk song and turn it into a loud, proud rock classic. Definitely deserves a nod for a truly great remake.

Comments about Hazy Shade of Winter:

The Bangles' version of Hazy Shade of Winter is, in my opinion, way superior to the Simon and Garfunkel original. I like Simon and Garfunkel, but The Bangles created a classic guitar riff, awesome beat, and the harmonies the song really deserves. It's hard to compare the songs because of the genre differences, but personally, I vote The Bangles all the way.

I think the Bangles cover version is one of the best cover songs ever! The original is good as well, but the Bangles just made it even better!

I prefer the Simon and Garfunkel version a bit more for its folky mood and its attention to the message of the lyrics. But, on the other hand, The Bangles Gave the already wonderful song the fullness of a three-part harmony. The one thing that really tips the scale, however, is that Simon and Garfunkel's version has a verse that the Bangles cut out; a verse which I happen to like, especially since it is a bit detracting to cut an already relatively short song.
