The Shirelles were nice kids, no doubt, but TM&TP were incomparably more virtuosic singers, and the arrangement really fulfills the potential of the song.

Mamas and the Papas are better here, but it's cause the Shirelles soud like crap. I prefer the version by the Temprees, way better than any other when it comes to this song.

This is no contest - the Shirelles version is far better. The M&P version is wayyy to middle of the road/pop.
