Cover vs. Original

The First Cut Is The Deepest

I won't count Rod Stewart's version from 1976 because, well, it's Rod Stewart. But I'm a sucker for Sheryl Crow.

I like both Linda Ronstadt's and Duff's.
Too bad neither is commercially available.

Between Sheryl Crow and Cat Stevens, Cat Stevens version is for sure the best. Too bad Linda Ronstadt's version never was released on vinyl, this version is superior!

Hey, I liked Rod Stewarts version better then Cat Stevens ... Cheryl Crow does it justice ...

These youngsters could make a real career of doing covers ... Neil Young has written over 1000 songs and I don't think anyone can ever replace him, but I'd like to hear some more covers of the original rockers tunes ... It MAY be the only way for the next generations to ever dig deeper and learn who wrote all this music FIRST ...

Re: The reggae version. Alyse from Brooklyn, I am sure you mean Norma Fraser's great version of the song, which is still my favorite. Before her, I wouldn't have thought anyone could do a version more heart-breaking than Cat's.

I really personally think Stewart's version was the best, but given these two options here, Stevens is still light years ahead of Crow.
