"Dolly wrote it and sang it the way it was intended: an apologetic, hurt farewell to a loved one. Dolly is classic."

Well said - I agree with everything you say! Whitney's version is just so over the top. Dolly's version is the best - who cares if her version is not as popular. I can't believe people are calling Whitney "great" - if you are going to call one of these artists great it's definitely Dolly.

you can't really compare these two artists, one being a country singer, the other being a rnb/soul/pop singer. While froma counrty music point of view dolly ticked ALL the right boxes with this song. SO did whitney with her version. Whitney's version is by far the more popular because of the publicity it recieved with the release of "the bodyguard." but through and through, because the people have something they can see in the song because of "the bodyguard movie". WHITNEY DEFINATELY BRINGS, DELIVERS AND OWNS THE SONG!!!

Dolly Pardon heart and soul goes into her song writting, as well as her singing, you can't take that away from her this will always be Dollys song because thats were it came from.

Whitney voice in this song is much different than Dolly. Different in a way that I like. I didn't like Dolly's voice quality. Dolly seems to be a wonderful person and I wish the best for Whitney.

Funny how the majority of comments for Whitney Houston are not from the USA. Maybe they don't know that Whitney Houston has been cracked out on drugs for years and ruined her credibility. She's attempting a comeback now, but this "comeback" has been going on for two years and we still have no new material or even a performance from her. Dolly is the ultimate songwriter, she's written over 3,000. Whitney: zero. Dolly's had dozens of albums over nearly 50 years, awards, inductions...Whitney hit it big in the 80's and burned out in the 90's. Whitney has great vocals, but by the end of the song her huge voice strips it of all meaning. Dolly wrote it and sang it the way it was intended: an apologetic, hurt farewell to a loved one. Dolly is classic.

How can Dolly be compared with the great WHITNEY, it relly sucks.Don´t you love my Queen?? I dont care. But say Dolly´s better than Whitney, you must be CRAZY!! Whitney show us the Greatest Love Of All everytime she sings I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU. Any doubt????? And the results couldn´t be 50%-50%, but 100%-0%, or at least 99%-1%. Dont you think???

First of all, Whitney is better than Dolly. I really tanks Dolly for writting that song(´cause it´s amazing), but when she wrote it, I think she was expecting someone to sing the music better than her (`cause she didn´t)and that really happened, a girl came and took the song for her own and turned it better, that was Whitney. Go whitney you´re the QUEEN, my QUEEN.
