An undisputed Kate Bush classic - a bold, moody reworking by Placebo. When both versions are this good how can you possibly choose one?

Comments about Running Up The Hill:
What strikes me as interesting is that in these two versions of the song, the qualities of vocals vs. instrumentation are flipped. In the original, the instrumentation is fairly cold and mechanical, and it is Kate Bush's rich, emotive vocals that make it an absolute classic. With the Placebo version, the instrumentals have more atmosphere and really set the tension, but the vocals have a kind of detached Pet Shop Boys quality about them. In both cases the juxtaposition works, and while this is such a brilliant cover, I have to give the nod to Kate Bush on this one. There just is no substitute for her rich and emotive voice.

Hm. The Placebo cover does a good job of establishing mood and atmosphere, but it honestly just can't beat Kate's version, which is, naturally, perfect.
Of course, the Placebo version is a million miles ahead of the rancid Within Temptation cover. Good god, what a horrible cover. I do like the Icon and the Black Roses version a lot though, and I prefer it to the Placebo one.

P.S. but we have to give props to kate bush for without her we wouldn't have these three very awesome remakes of HER song... don't forget that!

Within' Temptation's version is VERY good and so is the video... but I think overall the Placebo version takes the cake... though it is a VERY VERY close call... yes sir!

i was watching the oc and heard the song and thoght that it was good. but i had never head original version til i came to this site and i have to say that it is a close call but placebo hit it on the nail.

I had to go with Kate Bush's version - because I just LOVE her! But this was a very tough choice because both versions are pretty awesome! I'll have to check out the Within Temptation version too.

This is about to go off the nut, its the intro to season for of the oc, 1st episode 'the avengers'
awesome song, and it the rework sets the mood 100%!

Well, I can't vote, but I can choose: I prefer the "Running Up The Hill" version by Within Temptation. (Then Placebo, then Kate Bush.) WT's version is really GREAT. If you have never listened it, do it :)
