Cover vs. Original

Running Up The Hill

An undisputed Kate Bush classic - a bold, moody reworking by Placebo. When both versions are this good how can you possibly choose one?

I'm not saying Kate Bush's version is worse or anything, but to correct everyone who is saying Kate Bush wrote the lyrics, this is not true. Andrew Poppy and Claudia Brucken wrote the lyrics and performed it on the soundtrack of The Garden. Kate Bush covered it, it became huge, and a million bands including placebo covered it.

I've seen Placebo live a bunch of times. I love them a lot. But Kate Bush is queen of everything, and so is her version.

Placebo better than Kate bush? Come on....

I would have voted for Kate Bush - but the site is telling me i've already voted.

Anyway - check a cover version by the Chromatics. Whoops the ass of the Placebo version here

I love Placebo, but Kate Bush could kick their asses in a music war any day of the week.

Placebo's version is classy. Cute and respectful of the original. Their cover versions are always like that - they do a neat version of Sinead's Jackie and of course, Boney M's Daddy Cool.

People shouldn't go near Kate's songs as they will never be bettered. Anyone heard The Futureheads "Hounds Of Love" or Charlotte Church's "The Man With The Child In His Eyes"? Tragic!, just like placebo's version.

Honestly...comparing the two is ridiculous. They are both equally amazing and are obviously from two very different decades. Placebos version wouldnt have been made in the 80's....just as much as Kate's original version wouldn't have been made in the 00's. They are both great song's that happen to express the story and feeling of the song in two different ways.

Placebo's work was excellent, but you just CANNOT beat Kate's genius. When lyrics, music, arrangements, production and coreography were hers, you just can't possibly give merit to Placebo, they had it easy.

The Kate Bush version sounds "80s?" What? And you don't think the Placebo cover dreck is going to sound 00s in a few years? Oh, the idiocy of young morons. Kate Bush all the way. If she hadn't written it, Placebo wouldn't be able to make money off it.
