Cover vs. Original

Smells Like Teen Spirit

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a great song by Nirvana. It was covered by Tori Amos a year later with in my opinion great success.

Tori's is good, but I still think I prefer Kurt's.

No question here. Tori adds true raw emotion, while Nirvana was so fake.

Down with sellouts and fakers, down with Nirvana and Kurt Cobain.

Jeez ! Tori is boring ! If I may say so ;P i LOVE Nirvana (not as much as RHCP but a lot) so just .. ppl who claim for Tori's to be the best needs to sit down in front of a great hi-fi system and listen to the Nirvana edition once again with the volume turned way up .. then think about your answer once again :)

i have always hated the nirvana version and i downloaded tori's version by accident and was surprised to find myself listening to it over and over again. i think tori captured the song's message completely and found something new from the song and that's the purpose of doing a cover.

Has anyone else noticed the OVERALL horrid lack of maturity and adolescent diction of the ones who state that the original can never be redone or that Tori Amos is a bitch? Please people, I'm only 15, and I think some of these 90's generationers need to get out of the teenage mentality, no pun intended. Watch Pele Blow, Tori is a Goddess.

To express that a song must be performed the same way is actually of disturbing disrespect to the song itself. The esscence of the song is strict but universal, confining it to circumstance is very ignorant. Each version is done from different perspectives but manifests an aura raw emotion. Each artist performs with respect to the song itself, giving reverence to the multi-dimensional entity. It is amazing how people can just react without analysis on the personal architecture of their own opinions, foolish humans. I am apparently a seeker for the most complex of artistry. That is why Tori is my teacher and most praised artist. Kurt was astounding as well.
