Smells Like Teen Spirit
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a great song by Nirvana. It was covered by Tori Amos a year later with in my opinion great success.

I really don't like the cover, the original is inimitable

You know, I wouldn't have given her much chance on this one, but her version is damn good... different in intensity of course, but it would have been much worse if she had attempted that intensity anyway... No, her version is maybe closer to what Nirvana might have done in an Unplugged set. I have hard time saying which is better.

I like Tori Amos' music very much but still she could not manage to do a good cover of Teen Spirit. She is not even close to the Original in terms of intensity.
I reckon it would be a good song if Nirvana had never existed.

god no. there isn't any competition, nirvana rocks and their original version was 1000 x's better than who? no one even remembers her. i don't. people need to stop doing covers. she sucks ass.

I absolutely dislike this cover version. It took everything that was ingrained in the song - all the angst, the pathos, and the misery of a generation - and completely stripped it away. Granted, we are left with a haunting rendtion, but this is not supposed to be a slow, melodic song. It is, like another poster said already, an explosive epithet on the gravestone of 80's rock - it's an anthem, and anthems are meant to be belted out, not crooned softly over "a little night music". Sorry Tori, my vote goes to Kurt on this one.

Kyle - I hope you haven't forgotten Nirvana's first single was a cover version! ;-)

There is no contest. Nirvana's version is better. It's Original. I'm tired of cover "artists". If you can't write it yourself, don't record it, don't put it on your album, don't release it as a single.

Hi! Tori here. My version was best. Nirvana were so shit Kurt Cobain killed himself. Silly man. Good ridence to bad rubbish!!! That was clever ;-)
