Cover vs. Original

I won't back down

A great song! It is written by Tom Petty, who I have always liked. The original version is very good. In this special competition though, he doesn´t stand a chance. My vote for The Man In Black!

Cash puts more feeling into the song. Petty makes it seem like it's no big deal. They would definately take the ground out of Petty but at least Cash would fight for it.

CASH RULES!

Cash can't sing, his voice is hilarious. Petty is 2nd tier 'could of been'. Both belong doing county fairs for drinks and tips.

Petty in his tour/life show commented that he wished he had never done his version of the song after hearing Cash sing I won't back down. He commented that the song sounds like it was written for him, it just had so much power and feeling.

Watch the HD TV showing of the tour/life of Tom Petty and Heart Breakers.... makes you have an entire new view of the band.

The Man in Black prevails again and makes another song in his own version. Tom Petty doesn't put much feeling into it, but Cash does.

no you can't beat Cash unless its your song hes covering

Hey Ari Smith. Too much Starbucks and country music kills the ol' brain cells I figure. What do you think Ari? Anyway, I like Johnny but he doesn't stand a latte's chance in Camas against Tommy P.

I love both versions...but I voted Petty...I saw it live and the venue sucked but it played wonderfully.

Hey Very Angry Surfer. I guess I am a fool, a liar "ot" both.
- Ray, NYC, United States, 27.10.2007
I like Johnny Cash's version. I guess Tom Petty liked it too because he sung backing vocals and organ for it too.
