Across The Universe

A great version of a great song. I love them both equally, even though I know you're never supposed to vote against The Beatles. I also like Rufus Wainwright's version on the I Am Sam soundtrack.

The best version is the Beatles Anthology version. It is the only example I can think of where the Beatles picked the wrong version to put out originally.

Really difficult to call on this one. I am a big Beatles fan and I usually cringe when someone else covers one of there classic tracks but Fionas rendition is sublime. It is far more emotional than the original, but The Beatles version is the way it is supposed to be, so they just get my vote, PHEW!.

The two versions are really not dramatically different when you boil it down to instrumental arrangement, tempo and performance style. Fiona Apple simply brings a different feeling to the song because of her naturally throaty and sultry vocals. Because of this I have to give my vote to The Beatles because their original take was their own creation.
