Cover vs. Original

Under Pressure / Ice Ice Baby

Because of this blatant rip off of real musicians like Queen and David Bowie, Vanilla Ice will forever be a dead man to me. Anyone votes for Iceman, and your are either crazy, stoned, or just doing it out of spite, hopefully the latter.

All right. What freak voted for Vanilla Ice here? This vote should be 0% - 100%

Don't get me wrong, of course it's a shame and crap version, but more people get to know the original that way, i wanted to say with that.

Under pressure is somewhat my favorite song ever, and I first (!) heard ice ice baby before i knew the original!! so: vanilla ice didn't ruin the song for me after all, don't be that mad about him, after all he brougt the song more publicity to the young people, which is not so bad after all....

Vanilla Ice changed one note and can somehow call a song his? He should be sued for copyright infringements or whatever. Someone really should rip his testicles off and shove them down his throat. He obviously doesn't have the balls to make his own beat. I will agree with some of the people on here, this is not a cover. It's a blatant rip off of an amazing song. Vanilla Ice: what did you ever do after "Ice, Ice Baby"? Oh yeah, thats right, NOTHING.

You've managed to embarrass Canadian music fans everywhere. You are dead to us all. Go away.

For anyone who argues that Ice Ice Baby and Under Pressure is not a Cover vs. Original argument, great job at stating the obvious, you're missing the point. This Cover vs. Original is not so much about the song as a whole, but the beat used.
I agree with above, everyone is influenced from somewhere, can usually relate back to classical in some way.
However, in the case of who used the beat first, David Bowie and Queen win hands down. Vanilla Ices' To the Extreme album came out in 1990, Queens' Hot Space album, 1982.

I do agree that Ice Ice Baby isn't a cover, and most rap artists take beats from everywhere anyway, but that is not them saying "I came up with this and didn't take it from somebody else." After saying that I hate the song and think Vanilla Ice is an uncreative SOB who got paid for nothing. What do rappists (rap artist) need to make music? Just a computer and a thesaurus where as Bands like Queen need multiple talented and creative musicians. Vanilla Ice will never have half of the talent Mercury had as a singer. This song killed Freddy Mercury not the AIDS.

I HATE VANILLA ICE! Queen is my second favorite band so I'm in no way defending Vanilla when I say for the record he did take a GREAT song and turn it into catchy dance beat. AND I think that the live Queen version without David Bowie sounds WAAAY better than this one.
